from the desk of our pastor...

Friends...
We’re in some trying times. Our economy is at an all time low. Earthquakes are taking place in diverse places. Mothers are turning against daughters and daughters are turning against mothers. Fathers are walking away from families, and young sons are left to help raise their siblings. We’re in some troubling times.

But all is not lost. There is light at the end of tunnel. There is hope for tomorrow.

What it’s going to take is uniting our forces, standing hand and hand and saying to society, “Greater is He that is in us, then he that is in the world”.

We have too much on line to turn back now. We have our livelihood; we have our children, and our grandchildren. We have to think about those that will follow us. We have to fight to leave them a heritage. We have to fight to make sure that they have a future and a chance to succeed. We have to allow them to reach the end and enjoy the sunshine of their day. It’s our responsibility. We’re living in houses that we did not build, we’re drinking from well’s that we did not dig, eating from vines that we did not plant. We must stand even when we can’t take any more.

The mountain is high but we can make it. The valley is low, but we can overcome it. The light might be dim, but it will get brighter. I want to encourage you as a people to hold on. Don’t give up. We may not get there together, but we will make it. And like those of old, one glad morning when it’s all over, we’ll be able to sing with new meaning, “We made it, we made it, and with the Lord on our side we made it”.

I hope to have you join in on the struggle. I hope to hear your voices shouting we can make it. Don’t let these troubling times steal your joy, hope and future.

God Bless:

Rev. N. D. Smith, Pastor
President, NAACP - Albuquerque Branch
